Will the SBR096 work with the inverter I already have?

Only if it’s a Sungrow hybrid. Sungrow’s SH-RS, SH-RT, and SH15T to SH25T hybrid inverters support Sungrow SBR and SBH high voltage batteries only, and other brands of high voltage battery are no longer supported. On a single phase home running an SH-RS inverter, the SBR096 is the smallest battery in the range that pairs with it. You can settle this yourself in about a minute: read the model number printed on the front of your inverter, and if it isn’t one of the SH series listed above, the SBR096 won’t run on it. That’s a hardware limit rather than a setting, so the fix is a different inverter, not a different battery configuration.

Is 9.6kWh enough, and can I add more later?

For most households it covers the evening peak and the overnight base load, which is where the expensive tariff sits. If it turns out you need more, you add modules to the same unit rather than buying a second battery. The range takes up to 8 modules and 25.6kWh, so the SBR096 is a starting point rather than a ceiling.

What decides what a Sungrow solar battery costs?

Mostly the number of modules. Capacity is the biggest line on the invoice, which is the argument for starting at 9.6kWh and extending later once you’ve watched a few real bills. After that it comes down to whether your existing inverter can drive it, the cable run between the battery position and your switchboard, and what your meter needs. We quote the installed job, not a box price, so nothing appears on the final invoice that wasn’t in the quote.

Will it keep the house running in a blackout?

That depends on your inverter, not on the battery. Backup is a function the hybrid inverter provides, and it needs to be wired to a backup circuit during the install. Tell us that blackout cover matters to you before we design the system, because it changes the inverter choice and the switchboard work, and retrofitting it afterwards costs more than building it in.

Can it be installed outside?

Yes. It’s rated IP55 and approved for indoor or outdoor installation, and it charges between 0 and 50 degrees C. Through a hot summer the practical advice is to keep it off a wall that takes hard western sun, which protects the cells and the way the battery performs over its life. We’ll walk the site and pick the position.

Is there a rebate on a home battery?

Yes, through the federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program. It’s applied as a discount by your installer, so you don’t claim it back later. Queensland’s Battery Booster scheme has closed, which leaves the federal discount as the only one still available in this state. Ask us what it comes to on the system you’re considering, because it scales with usable capacity.

What’s covered by the warranty?

Sungrow warrants the battery for 10 years, and guarantees it will still hold at least 60% of its original capacity at the end of that period, or up to a minimum energy throughput of 40.32 MWh, whichever it reaches first. The warranty is written to be claimed through a Clean Energy Council accredited installer.
